Compact S

Compact S is a ventilation unit that can ventilate the dwelling and produce domestic hot water in one compact installation. The unit is intended for standard single-family dwellings or apartments with a ventilation requirement of up to 340 m3/h.

Compact S saves you considerable space in the machine room. Another advantage is that the control systems for ventilation and domestic hot water work in unison, which enables energy efficiency and thereby an overall saving in energy consumption.

The “heart and lungs” of the house

Compact S is not a traditional ventilation unit. In contrast to other ventilation units, it recovers 100% of the heat from the extract air. The counterflow heat exchanger makes it possible to recover up to 95% of the energy in the extract air. This is then used to heat the outdoor air. The integral heat pump will utilise any remaining energy for producing domestic hot water.

Passive heat recovery

Passive heat recovery occurs via a counterflow heat exchanger with a temperature efficiency of up to 95%. The outdoor air is heated by the extract air. This ensures the least possible heat loss from the ventilation process.

Due to the high level of heat recovery, ice may form in the exchanger during winter. The control system has an efficient de-icing function that will de-ice the exchanger if necessary. Alternatively, Compact S is available as a Polar model, which has an integral pre-heating element for frost protection. This ensures that ice cannot form in the exchanger, and it provides full heat recovery throughout the winter.

Passive and active heat recovery

When the integral heat pump in the ventilation part is not producing domestic hot water, it can heat the supply air even further and thereby help heat the dwelling.

This only happens when the indoor temperature or the supply air temperature falls below the value specified in the settings.

When the heat pump heats the supply air, the domestic hot water is also heated slightly at the same time. The temperature may therefore exceed the one that you have set as your desired hot water temperature.

Domestic hot water

The integral heat pump uses the energy in the extract air that has not been recovered by the counterflow heat exchanger. It uses this remaining energy to produce domestic hot water.

There is software-based scald protection of 60 °C, which means that the temperature in the hot water tank will not exceed this. If the requirement for hot water is considerable, we recommend that you install an actual anti-scald valve under the hot water tank so the temperature in the tank can increase to 90 °C. Compact S is available with a solar coil mounted in the hot water tank. If the requirement for domestic hot water is very high, the solar coil can act as supplementary heat source.

Anti-legionella function
Compact S has an anti-legionella function that you can activate manually or set to activate automatically.

Bypass function

When the outdoor temperature is above 14 °C, the unit will operate in summer mode. The unit will then cool the indoor air if the indoor temperature gets too high according to the values specified in the settings.

If the outdoor air is cooler than the indoor air, the bypass damper in the unit will open. The outdoor air will then bypass the heat exchanger, and the heat from the extract air will not get transferred to the outdoor air. This will help keep the temperature down inside the dwelling.

If the outdoor air is warmer than the indoor air, the bypass damper will close. The outdoor air will then flow through the heat exchanger, which will recover the coolness from the cooler indoor air and use it to cool the outdoor air.

Active cooling

The heat pump in the ventilation part is reversible. This means that it can both heat and cool the supply air.

When the outdoor temperature is above 14 °C, the unit will operate in summer mode. The unit will then cool the indoor air if the indoor temperature gets too high according to the values specified in the settings.

When cooling, the unit will first attempt to do so by means of the bypass function. If this proves inadequate, it will begin to cool actively via the heat pump.

This requires that the active cooling function has been activated as the process uses electricity. But it is not wasted because the heat that is extracted from the supply air is transferred to the hot water tank. If the requirement for cooling is high, it is recommended that you install a scald protection device below the hot water tank.  You can then set the max. temperature in the hot water tank between 60 °C and 80 °C.

Capacity

Capacity of standard unit as a function of qv and Pt, ext.

SEL values according to EN 13141-7 are for standard units with ISO 16890 Coarse 75% (G4) filters and without heating element.

SEL values comprise the unit’s total power comsumption excl. control.

Attention! The SEL values are measured and stated as a total value for both fans.

Temperature efficiency

Temperature efficiency for units with counterflow heat exchanger according to EN308.

NB! Temperature efficiency is only for the counter flow heat exchanger (without heat pump operation).

COP (air-air)

Heat output factor COP [-] supply air as a function of outdoor temperature t21 [°C] and volume flow qv [m3/h] in accordance with EN14511 at a room temperature t11 = 21°C

COP according EN14511 is calculated for the heat pump and counter flow heat exchanger combined.

Blue curve: COP air-air

Red curve: Heat output supply air

Tapped water

Tapped volume in liters Vmax [L] from Compact S tank as a function of tapped temperature t [C°] and tank temperature at 40°, 50° and 60°C.

Sound data

Sounddata is for qv = 210 m3/h and Pt, ext = 100 Pa in accordance with EN 9614-2 for surface and EN 5136 for ducts.

The CTS602 control system is an advanced control system with many settings options. The control system is supplied with factory default settings that can be adapted to the operational requirements in order to achieve best possible operation and utilisation of the unit.

The HMI Touch panel provides an overview of the current operation of the unit. The structure of its menu makes it easy to navigate for both user and installer. You can choose from 2 different images for the main screen.

External communication
The CTS602 control system has an open Modbus RS485 protocol that can be used for communication via external CTS systems. The Modbus connection is used for e.g. Schneider's IHC or KNX systems.

You can find further information about all the functions in the Software and Installation instructions for the unit.

ATTENTION! When positioning the unit, you should always consider future services and maintenance. It is recommended that you leave a minimum of 60 cm of clear space in front of the unit.

It must be easy to replace filters and it must be possible to replace, for instance, fans and other components.

ATTENTION! The unit must be level to enable proper drainage from the condensate tray.

  • Connect the ventilation part to the duct system via spouts at the top of the unit.
  • Connect up the domestic hot water under the hot water tank.
